DTI Chief leads inspection of local ceramic plumbing fixtures manufacturer

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Chief Cristina A. Roque spearheads the visit of HoCheng Philippines Corporation (HPC) manufacturing plant on 3 September, highlighting the significance of ensuring quality and safety through continuous standards compliance.

As one of only two active local manufacturers with a Philippine Standards (PS) Quality License, HPC stands as a leader in the ceramic plumbing fixture (CPF) industry.

During the visit, the officials inspected production of ceramic plumbing fixtures (CPFs), including lavatories, urinals and water closets —products that fall under the 109 regulated items by the DTI’s Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS).

To ensure compliance, CPFs are subjected to a range of technical tests, such as absorption, crazing, surface examination, warpage, and dimension checks.

With over 55 local and foreign active Philippine Standards (PS) Quality Licensees for ceramic fixtures, HPC remains the only local licensee. In accordance with the Department Administrative Order (DAO) 21-08, Series of 2021, all CPFs – whether locally manufactured or imported – are required to undergo the DTI BPS Mandatory Product Certification before being sold or distributed in the Philippine market.

The DTI, through the BPS, as the National Standards Body (NSB) of the Philippines, continues to work closely with manufacturers and stakeholders to ensure that regulated products meet safety, quality, and performance requirements in line with Philippine standards. Mandated to develop, promulgate, and implement standards for all products in the country, DTI-BPS promotes standardization activities to ensure the manufacture, production, and distribution of quality products for consumer protection. ♦
