18 Philippine organizations honored during PQA ceremony
Representing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin conferred the 27th Philippine Quality Awards (PQA) to 18 top Filipino organizations at Malacañang on Friday, September 5, recognizing their highest standards of quality and performance excellence as a strategic move to advance national competitiveness.
The Philippine Heart Center received the PQA for Performance Excellence (Level 4), the highest level of recognition, for its outstanding achievement as a national model of performance excellence.
Two institutions were honored for Mastery in Quality Management (Level 3) for demonstrating superior outcomes through robust management systems: the Universidad de Zamboanga – Zamboanga campus and the Philippine Science High School – Main campus.
Ten organizations received the Recognition for Proficiency in Quality Management (Level 2), a testament to their significant progress in establishing definitive processes for quality management. The awardees were Agusan Del Sur State College of Agriculture and Technology, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region III, DOST Region IX, DOST – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources, Research and Development, DepEd Schools Division Office of Tarlac Province, Isabela State University – Cauayan Campus, Polytechnic University of the Philippines Manila Campus, Mountain Province State University, Nueva Vizcaya State University, and Lyceum of the Philippines University – Cavite
Meanwhile, five organizations received the Recognition for Commitment to Quality Management (Level 1) for demonstrating a serious commitment to improvement through long-term quality and productivity gains. They were St. Mary’s University, Apayao State College, Camarines Norte State College – Main campus, Central Mindanao University, and the DOST – Advanced Science & Technology Institute.
DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque, who also serves as PQA award manager, affirmed the DTI’s support for PQA’s mission of cultivating a culture of excellence that spreads from globally competitive small to large enterprises.
“At the Department of Trade and Industry, we believe that quality is a continuous journey. And through initiatives like the PQA, we remain steadfast in our mission to build a more robust, resilient, and competitive Philippines. Organizations must always strive for excellence and be the best they can be,” she affirmed.
The Philippine Quality Awards is given to exemplary organizations that meet and exceed international standards in quality management and performance, showcasing them as benchmarks for Philippine industries.
The PQA selection process evaluates applicants from business, education, government, and healthcare sectors across seven core categories: leadership, strategy, customers, measurement, analysis, and knowledge management, workforce, operations, and results.
The rigorous four-stage assessment was managed by the DTI Competitiveness and Innovation Group through its Bureau of Competitive Development, in partnership with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) and the Philippine Society for Quality (PSQ), Inc. ♦
