DTI R2 assists DA in monitoring prices of imported rice across Region 2
17 February 2025 — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 under the leadership of Regional Director Ma. Sofia G. Narag, CESO V, extended assistance to the Department of Agriculture (DA) in conducting a special monitoring operation across Region 2 to monitor the availability and prices of imported rice.
As of the latest monitoring update, the price ranges for imported rice are as follows:
- Regular Milled Rice: NO REGULAR IMPORTED RICE LISTED
- Well-Milled Rice: NO WELL-MILLED IMPORTED RICE LISTED
- Premium Rice: Fifty-one (51.00) pesos – Seventy-four pesos (74.00)
- Special Rice: Fifty-five (55.00) pesos – Sixty (60.00) pesos
Further, DTI is currently assisting in conducting regular rice monitoring and inspections in supermarkets and wet markets. Additionally, it works closely with Local Price Coordinating Councils (LPCCs), Local Government Units (LGUs), and other stakeholders to gather valuable insights and uphold fair pricing practices. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to stabilize the rice market and protect the public from unfair pricing strategies in view of the existing food security emergency.
As of date, findings indicate that while imported rice is available in the market, locally produced rice remains more significant in terms of supply and distribution.
