PAB reinforces commitment to quality through ISO 15189:2022 orientation for DOH clinical laboratories

In line with the Memorandum of Agreement between the DTI-Philippine Accreditation Bureau (PAB) and the Department of Health (DOH), PAB was invited to provide an orientation on ISO 15189:2022 Medical Laboratories – Requirements for quality and competence during the second batch of awareness sessions for selected DOH Clinical Laboratories. This initiative supports the strengthening of quality management systems in clinical laboratories and promotes alignment with international standards toward accreditation.
Mr. Richard Albert J. Ramones, MedTech IV from the DOH Health Facility Development Bureau – Office for Health Laboratories (HFDB-OHL), set the tone of the two-day orientation by emphasizing the importance of laboratory quality systems, international standards, and their alignment with the National Quality Policy and Strategy for Health (NQPS-H). “Quality is not achieved overnight. It is the product of commitment, discipline, and shared vision,” Mr. Ramones remarked. “Together let us take this step with confidence and determination, knowing that the work we start here will ripple across our health system for years to come.”
The workshop featured comprehensive learning sessions led by Engr. Aldwin B. Tagapan, a freelance consultant, trainer, and one of PAB’s external assessors. He made the learning more interactive by presenting real-life scenarios that participants could work through, ensuring that complex clauses of the standards were easier to grasp.
To assess learning progress, a pre-test was administered before the sessions, and a post-test was conducted at the end of the two-day workshop. This approach reinforced the learning acquired during the workshop to assess their understanding and retention of the key discussions.
Beyond compliance, the orientation encouraged laboratories to embrace a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery. The success of this activity reflects the strong collaboration between PAB and DOH in advancing laboratory service quality. This undertaking also reflects PAB’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of clinical laboratories to align with international standards, thereby contributing to the delivery of reliable and quality-driven healthcare services nationwide. ♦
