DTI partners with DA to boost agribusiness ties in Macau

Macau SAR – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines, through its overseas trade and investment office in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Macau SAR, the Philippine Trade and Investment Center – Hong Kong (PTIC-HK), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture’s Office of the Agriculture Counsellor in Beijing (OAC-Beijing), successfully held a business mission to Macau on 27 June 2025 to explore new opportunities in the agricultural business (agribusiness) sector within the region.
The business mission was led by Atty. Roberto B. Mabalot, Jr., Vice Consul (Commercial) and Commercial Attaché of PTIC-HK, and Atty. Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra, Assistant Secretary for Agribusiness, Marketing, and Consumer Affairs of the Department of Agriculture.
PTIC-HK facilitated market immersion activities and a meeting with HJH Macau, a local agricultural technology company and brand for organic produce which was represented by its president, Mr. Benjamin Suen Mr. Suen highlighted their Mainland China farm’s production of over 20 types of vegetables, including Western varieties like crispy leaf greens, red and green butter lettuce, red and green romaine lettuce, Italian lettuce, and kale. The company also cultivate Chinese vegetables such as bok choy, red cabbage, and Chinese broccoli, all USDA Organic certified. The two parties explored potential partnerships and collaborations involving companies from both the Philippines and Macau.

Additionally, market sensing activities were conducted at the iconic Almirante Lacerda Municipal Market, commonly known as the Red Market, and at Royal Supermarket, the largest supermarket chain in Macau. These activities provided valuable insights into Macau’s agricultural product market structure and helped explore potential opportunities for local market entry.
