Eco Nuestra Homemade Products: From Home Kitchen to Market Shelves

From humble beginnings in Lapu-Lapu City, Eco Nuestra Homemade Products has grown into a local food brand with a strong presence in Cebu, Bohol, and parts of Mindanao. Behind its success is Edward C. Odron, a former OFW in South Korea, whose passion for cooking led him to a life-changing entrepreneurial journey.

Edward started his business in the early 2000s, shortly after returning from working abroad. What began with making sardines—a product he found easy and enjoyable to prepare—turned into heartfelt gifts for family and friends. Encouraged by their positive feedback, Edward leaped and began selling his homemade creations.

Starting from just three product varieties, the business has expanded into a diverse range of 11 proudly local products under the brand name Nuestra—a name taken from the Spanish word “our” and inspired by Nuestra Señora De Regla, the patroness of Lapu-Lapu City. The name ECO also holds personal significance, representing the initials of Edward and his siblings. The product line now includes: Bagoong, Spanish Sardines, Ginamos, Achara, and Peanut Butter.

These products are now available in major retail outlets, such as Colonade, Metro Gaisano, Gaisano Capital, Alturas, and Highlands City Mall, bringing homemade flavor to a wider audience.

Like many entrepreneurs, Edward faced his fair share of challenges. Initially, managing finances and business operations was difficult. But through consistent effort, continued production, and investment in necessary machinery, he gradually mastered the ropes of running a small enterprise.

One major transformation in his life was the freedom he found in entrepreneurship. Unlike his days as an employee, Edward now enjoys the ability to explore new ideas and innovate without restrictions. This independence has not only helped him thrive professionally but also enabled him to support his 14-year-old daughter’s education.

His journey received a significant boost with the support of government agencies, such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Through Trainings, Seminars, Trade Fairs, and One Town, One Product (OTOP) support for packaging and labeling, Edward has gained greater confidence in bringing his products to broader markets.

Looking ahead, Eco Nuestra aims to achieve FDA-CPR Registration, Halal Certification, and to join International Trade Fairs, with hopes of expanding further and showcasing Filipino homemade products on a global scale. From a hobby in the kitchen to a brand found on grocery shelves, Edward C. Odron’s story is proof that with passion, purpose, and a little help, small beginnings can grow into something truly impactful. (DTI Cebu) ♦
